Why did you join KDP? I believe teaching is one career from which we must continually grow and learn by working together with fellow future teachers and current teachers. I not only wanted to meet other future teachers at JMU through KDP; but, I also wanted to be a part of something larger - an organization that shares its appreciation for learning and teaching in many ways, both within the JMU and Harrisonburg communities.
Why do you want to be a teacher? I have loved working with children since I was old enough to begin babysitting. I was also one of "those kids" to play school when I was young. After a teacher's assistant opportunity in high school with my former kindergarten teacher, I was hooked. I knew that I could not see myself doing anything else besides teaching; I wanted to play a fundamental role in shaping the minds of young students, to serve as a role model and a mentor, and to be a "forever learner" in a classroom of my own.

Best piece of classroom advice/wisdom you’ve received: Every child in your classroom will need something different from you. Some will need your love, some will need your attention, some will need your affirmation of their knowledge, and others will need you to challenge them. Know that as a teacher, you wear many hats. You can't do it all, but you CAN do your best! As long as each child knows he or she is loved and has a place in your classroom, you ARE succeeding.
